Job Description

Job Summary:

The Phlebotomist collects and processes blood specimens for testing.

Responsibilities:

  • Draws and collects blood samples. Verifies records.

  • Labels, processes and delivers specimens for testing.

  • Maintains supplies and equipment.

  • May assist with coordinating and conducting blood drives, including interviewing and screening donors.

  • Collects blood specimens for special lab procedures according to policy.

  • Demonstrates appropriate interpersonal and communication skills and provides excellent customer service.

  • Performs positive patient identification using two patient identifiers when handling samples, requisitions and labels. Follows established safety and infection control policies and procedures.

  • Performs specimen processing functions, answers phones, utilizes computer functions. Performs laboratory order entry into LIS system, including client Electronic orders. Assures courier pick-up and collects patient billing information as necessary for the assigned phlebotomy location.

Qualifications

Education:

  • HS or Equivalent

  • High school diploma or equivalent required Phlebotomy training course preferred

Work Experience:

  • Hospital based positions prefer 1+ years hospital phlebotomy experience.
