As a 24 hour residential treatment facility, direct care staff is required to work a schedule in which the assigned shift will be twelve hours. The selected candidate assigned to an eight hour shift, will be assigned to one of three shifts covering the 24 hour period. This position may be required to work additional mandatory hours which may include working on a scheduled off-duty day. Twelve hour shift positions may also require additional hours or schedule adjustments when needed, up to a maximum of 16 consecutive hours.
The selected candidate for this position will be required to complete training in non-coercive strategies and trauma-informed care, first aid and CPR. Non-coercive strategies include an integrated approach to preventing, de-escalating, and if necessary, intervening when the behavior of an individual poses a threat of harm to themselves and/or others.
As a Direct Care Aide, responsibilities to be performed are providing residential care, assisting with enrichment activities and supporting the treatment, psychiatric rehabilitation, stabilization and recovery of people with a mental illness. The position is also responsible for developing and maintaining a professional caregiver relationship with people served, and shall not exceed relationship boundaries by developing personal friendships, sharing personal information or exchanging personal items. The individual selected for this position is expected to treat people served in a respectful manner that preserves their dignity. The selected candidate must work alternate work sites and demonstrate physical skills to ensure optimal operation of this treatment facility.
This position may be required to work in an area serving civil or forensic residents at the residential treatment facility. The civil services focus is to assist people who have severe and persistent mental illness in successfully functioning in valued roles and environments of their choosing. Forensic services serves a seriously and persistently mentally ill population with felony charges who have been determined incompetent to proceed to trial or not guilty by reason of insanity.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Service Planning: Participates in service planning and ensures adherence to plans
Daily Living Skills: Works with resident to ensure completion of daily living activities
Crisis Management: Maintains a safe environment by proactively using verbal and non-verbal communication and intervention skills in accordance with our non-coercive strategies and trauma-informed care.
Documentation: Documents information factually and objectively
Observation, Assessment, & Monitoring: Provides safe and supportive observations, accurate assessments and effectively monitoring residents as assigned
Escort & Transport: Escorts and transports residents to appointments, activities, etc.
Activities: Provides group and leisure activities
Advocacy: Advocates for residents’ recovery
Build Relationships: Builds and maintains appropriate relationships and interactions with residents, families, providers, co-workers
The position will perform all job tasks in accordance with laws, rules, regulations, policies, and requirements applicable to state and federal laws or procedures.
